Yorkshire Brass Band Championship

This group contains only the single 1967 'Yorkshire Area' contest that was run in opposition to the series of National qualifying North Eastern Area contests. Originally contests with this name were run in 1943 and 1944, but these were co-opted to be the North Eastern Area contest (modern Yorkshire Area) from 1945, the year that the area qualifying system was inaugurated, and may be found under Yorkshire Area.

In May 1965 the sponsors of the Nationals contest system announced that they would no longer back the area qualifying contests; in 1966 the Yorkshire qualifying contest reverted to its original name and was run autonomously, providing finals qualifiers. In 1967 the NE Area contest returned, but the Yorkshire Brass Band Championship (shown here) was again run, this time in opposition to it, earlier in the same month. Finals qualifiers came from the NE Area contest in this year. By 1968, the dispute appears to have been resolved.
