The 1945 Championship was the first sponsored by the Daily Herald Newspaper.

The winners were announced by John Henry Iles OBE.

The composers notes on his work described an "Epic Occasion" as "such as the overthrow of Nazidom".
The contest started at 12.00 noon.
The programme cost 6d and all proceeds went to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children.
