This was Championship Section of the 35th Annual Contest organised by the North West Area Brass band Association, Preston District. The Contest had a first prize of the "Parr Hall" trophy plus £130 and the second won the "Boddington" trophy plus £70. The draw was at 3.30pm and the contest commenced at 5.15pm according to the programme notes.
