Now known as the Fire Brass Band Festival.
Prior to the change of name to the current name and change of format to entertainment contest, this contest was known as the Carnegie Invitation Contest, and was an own choice test piece contest. Bands submitted a list of four possible own choice pieces to the organisers, who chose from that list and notified bands so that no test pieces were repeated.
