"Brass Band Contest at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.— The Trent Bridge Cricket Ground was the scene of a fete on Monday, which was favoured by the weather, on the occasion of the brass band contest. The contest lasted several hours, to the delight of many, during which time the following programme was adhered to :

After the contest, all the bands formed a circle, and played The Volunteer Artillery and Rifle Corps Grand March " and "God Save the Queen." The following award was made by the judges, Mr. C. Boosey, Royal Horse Guards, Windsor, and Mr. J. TidswelL band master East York Militia :— lst prize of £12 with silver mounted baton for band master, to the Wilford (Notts. Yeomanry) band ; 2nd : £8 to the Bradgate band ; 3rd : £4, to the Sherwood Rangers Band; 4th : £2, to the Sutton-in-Ashfield band. In the evening there was an assault -at arms, and a grand pyrotechnic display. "Aunt Sally" came in for a fair share of attention, and the archery butts seemed to have attractions for others. On the whole, however, the music excepted, the affair was stale, flat, and unprofitable"
