Brendan has been involved with a number of bands in New Zealand, in many administrative and playing roles ranging from conductor to librarian, from second horn to soprano cornet to timpani. In 2024, Brendan was elected to the National Management Committee of the Brass Band Association of New Zealand.

By day, he is music librarian for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and is a freelance trumpet player in numerous settings.
