Born in the Rhondda in 1975, Christian completed his education at Cardiff University, obtaining a doctorate in Physics. After spending several years working in industry, he is currently a Research Officer at Swansea University.
Christian's association with brass bands began at the age of 11 under the guidance of [conductors/ieuan-morgan|Ieuan Morgan] at [bands/treorchy-secondary-school-youth|Treorchy Comprehensive School]. While still at school, he held solo baritone positions for both the Mid Glamorgan Youth Brass Band and the [bands/national-youth-brass-band-of-wales|National Youth Brass Band of Wales]. From there, he progressed to hold the solo baritone seats at [bands/tylorstown-band|Tylorstown], [bands/parc-and-dare|Parc & Dare] and [bands/thomas-coaches-mid-rhondda-band|Mid Rhondda Bands].
In 2003, Christian became the Musical Director of the [bands/briton-ferry-band|Briton Ferry Silver Band]. He steered them through one of the most successful periods their history, gaining promotion from the 3rd to the 1st Section, and oversaw the band’s centenary celebrations in 2010. Christian has subsequently worked with many bands throughout south Wales, but still maintains a close association with Briton Ferry.
As an arranger, Christian’s music is widely performed by bands the world over. He has worked closely with euphonium star David Childs on several projects, and his arrangement of the Berlioz overture [pieces/benvenuto-cellini-jenkins|Benvenuto Cellini] was used as the set test piece for the [contests/senior-trophy/2011-05-14|2011 Senior Trophy Contest] held in Blackpool. Other highlights have included projects for Phantom of the Opera star Peter Karrie, and the opening weekend of the Wales Millennium Centre.
