Mirfield Silver Band was formed June 1954. It was formed from a nucleous of members of British Railways (Mirfield Division) brass band (which had formed in 1946) together with a few members of Mirfield Military Baptist Band and Ravensthorpe Subscription Band. By 1957, Mirfield Silver Band had over 30 playing members.
Mirfield Silver Band was wound up in 1960 due to a lack of financial backing and poaching of key players by other local bands. This was reported in Huddersfield & Holmfirth Examiner on Saturday 14 May 1960.
