Contest was promoted by the St. Joseph's Band. It was intended that bands would play a Quadrille and Quick Step of their own choice. However, the weather was reported as inclement, with heavy rain falling for most of the day, so the quickstep was dispensed with. First prize was an electro plated "Besson and Company" Cornet, second prize £4, third prize £2 and fourth prize £1.
