The youngest player, and only girl at the contest was 10 year old Mary Bailey with the Woodfalls Band.

At 4.45pm the announcement of the results and the winning band playing a piece of its own choice was played on BBC Radio.

1953 was the second year in succession that the contest took place at the Empress Hall, Earl's Court.
