Contest associated with the Newcastle Jubilee Exhibition.
Prizes: 12 guineas + 12 guinea cornet, 10 guineas + 11 guinea cornet, 8 guineas + 11 guinea baritone, 5 guineas + 7 guinea trombone, 4 guineas
Contest was confined to brass bands belonging to the counties of Northumberland and Durham. Twenty bands competed, the pieces played being mostly from the works. of Meyerbeer, Round, Verdi, Balfe, Weber, Rossini, and Gounod.
