INTRODUCTION of Brass Band Contest
The Royal South Street Society added a Brass Band section to the program of events
The contest was billed as the Grand Intercolonial Band Contest (Ungraded) with the following conditions
Reed Instruments permitted
(3rd Battalion Launceston only band to include reed instruments)
No Drums or Cymbals
No less than 16 or more that 24 players
Each band to play 2 selections or 1 selection & 1 overture
The winners were decided on the total aggregate points of the 2 selections
9 bands competed-- 7 from Victoria - 1 each from Tasmania and N S W
A Quickstep Diagram March was held on Sunday 7th.
15,000 people thronged the City Oval for the closing scene.
