The Judge was A. D. Keate, Professor of Music from Denton in Manchester. The contest took place on a football field off Elliot Street, Tyldesley. The Bands formed up on Castle Street, then proceeded via Elliot Street and Well Street to the field for the quickstep contest. The prizes were as follows:- 1st prize £10, 2nd prize £7, third prize £5 fourth prize £3 and fifth prize £1. There were also two prizes for the quickstep, 1st prize £1 and 2nd prize 10s, won by Wingates Temperance and Pemberton Old respectively.
