Also/previously known as: T. J. Powell, Tom PowellBorn Tredegar 12th October 1897, son of W.J.Powell. Died on 29th January 1965, the occasion being a live broadcast of "Challenging Brass" on the BBC Home Service, when he was to be guest conductor of Cory Workmens' Band. The Radio Times billing actually states that the conductor was Stanley Williams. That evening, Williams was playing solo cornet, but spontaneously stepped up to conduct when Powell collapsed in the studio in Charles Street, Cardiff.
