William Halliwell -1946
Conductor
Born Roby Mill, Lancashire on 11th March 1864. Started as conductor of Upholland band 1884. Bandmaster 1st Battalion Manchester Regt played when Queen Victoria opened Manchester Ship Canal in 1894. Appointed professional conductor of Wingates in 1918, left that capacity 1928. Died April 24th 1946.
