After ignition, the music turns into a fast-paced rousing melody that follows the rocket up into space. The repetitive motifs throughout the band reflect the dizzying speed at which the rocket approaches the atmosphere.

The slow movement paints a beautiful picture of our planet from outer space. The flugelhorn presents the main theme a first time before it will be led by the whole band to an apotheosis. The cornets and trombones then announce the journey home with a resumption of the opening theme.

This begins at an equally dazzling speed, the excitement of the journey is increasingly intensified until it culminates in a triumphant finale with a spectacular ending reflecting the homecoming of the space voyagers.
