St. Andrews Variations [Fernie] 1999
Commissioned by the East Anglian BBA for their 61st Annual Spring Festival - 2nd May 1999.
Junior Band music. The title of the ‘St. Andrew’s Variations’ has no significance apart from the fact it was written by a Scotsman to be played in the St. Andrew’s Hall !
"I have tried to maintain a balance between keeping the music straightforward technically, and giving the players something interesting to play.
The theme is based on a descending motif which appears in various guises throughout seven following variations"
:-
A proud Fanfare,
A gentle Waltz,
A sad Elegy,
A purposeful March,
A passionate Romance,
A busy ‘Moto Perpetuo’ and
A peaceful Hymn,
ending with a rousing Finale.
