Midlothian (Council Area), Scotland, UK
Historic Midlothian (known until 1890 as the County of Edinburgh), although it gave rise to the modern-day council areas of Midlothian and the City of Edinburgh, also included territory now in both West and East Lothians, extending as far West as near Livingston, and as far East as near Lauder. It also included Musselburgh.
On 16th May 1975 the three Lothians were combined into the single region of Lothian, which was split apart again on 1st April 1996, into the modern-day council areas of West Lothian, Midlothian, East Lothian, and City of Edinburgh.
