A band known as the Boys’ band was formed in 1936 with Sam Whitaker as conductor. Mr Whitaker passed away in 1940 and the band had various conductors until Ralph Skerritt took over and won D Grade in 1946. The band then changed its name to Excelsior and Boys and a lot of players resigned and joined the Federals. Mr A Connors took over the band in 1946 and over the years gradually became A Grade. The band lost a lot of players after the 1968 contest and amalgamated with the City and City Juniors in 1972.
