Band originally formed in 1910. Dennis Taylor in his book the Heritage of N.E.Brass Bands, states the band enlisted in 1939 as the 11th Batt Durham Light Infantry. Article in Brass Band News February 1950 states band played for troops at Dunkirk in 1940, having to leave 9 members and all their equipment when they were evacuated, two of whom were killed. Another member was killed on D-Day. Band received 3 Military Medals and the Order of the Royal Oak Leaves. (British Bandsman Jan 7 1950.
