The Wide Bay Regiment Band began in the 1880's and was under the control of Mr. Alf Hall. In 1912 the Military band disbanded and the City Band was founded with Mr. Hall conducting for many years. The band struggled through the Great War and in 1921 at Bundaberg under Mr. W Ryder the band won the coveted Boosey Cup by 24 points. In 1927 the band went to contest under Mr. W H Partington and in 1930 the band competed in C Grade being conducted until 1948 by Jack Brennan. Jack normally stood down at contests to allow a coach to be appointed. By the 1960’s the numbers were depleted and a boys band was formed and was conducted by Fred Wedd, Don Perry and Erny Heitmann until the band amalgamated with the Excelsior and Boys in 1972.
